Gartner, Inc. (IT) this month reported on how data centers must prepare for the Internet of things (IoT) by recognizing several key challenge areas, including security, consumer privacy and storage management. But do cloud services providers (CSPs), cloud brokers, aggregators and channel partners agree with the IT research firm's analysis?

According to our (unscientific) poll last week, 80 percent of Talkin' Cloud's readers are taking Gartner's research into consideration by acknowledging the role of IoT in the data center. Acceptance is not a solution, however, it's only a step forward.

Over the upcoming months, the channel will watch how leading vendors develop their plans for this industry shift. Take a closer look into the market, and you'll find some companies already pushing their own solutions.

POLL:Will government requests for user information in criminal investigations continue to rise?

For example, Cisco (CSC) gave its own spin on the idea: the Internet of Everything -- an initiative discussed last week at its partner summit. Other leaders in the industry such as IBM Smarter Planet and Oracle (ORCL) are pushing similar efforts.

How will the IoT -- or the IoE for Cisco partners -- play out? Will more vendors continue push the movement onto channel partners at conferences this year? Only time will tell -- but we'll keep you updated.
